| chronicle.com |
Hello everyone....
How’s life? Hope you all are healthy :)
Here, I will share the experience of "Study from Home" in the last two weeks during the self-quarantine related to the Blog Writing Class.
Well, in the first week of the self-quarantine I made a self-reflection on what has been done and learned in meeting 7, in which the class was taught by Miss Karina who used to be a content writer for 11 years. Is there any other thing that I learned? Yeah... to be honest, I did not learn anything else. I just made that reflection on the class blog.
In the second week, what did I learn then?
So in the second week, I learned a lot by reading a book titled “The Ultimate Guide to Blogging”. The book was published by Content Marketing Institute whose founder is Joe Pulizzi. Let me tell you what it is about.
The book is about blogging as its title, starting from creating a blog, writing the content for the blog post, until the tips of promoting the blog and how to measure the success of blogging as the main chapters of the book, The book also specifies the category of blogging as a marketing tool for a company. There are eight sub-chapters of the book. Here is brief summary about those sub-chapters:
12 Reasons to Start Blogging
The sub-chapter mentions 12 reasons why your company should start blogging. Blogging becomes a good idea for a marketing strategy to reach the goal of the company. Some of the mentioned reasons are blogs as the easy-to-use CMS (content management system) that can facilitate the company to update or modify the content quickly and facilitate the content distribution through multiple channels.
The 10 Things Every Company Should Do Before Blogging
Every company should do some tips before blogging. It includes the tips of finding the blog’s objective and target readers, making creative outlines, organizing a good blog team, setting the timetable of publication schedule. Those tips will help you and your company a lot in preparing a good blog.
Choosing Your Writing Style
There are two tips for choosing the writing styles. The fist and foremost tips is just be “You”, your own self without trying to follow or imitate others’ writing styles. The next one is expressing your point of view briefly to avoid a flat and boring writing. The tips will be suitable for the content writer of your company.
Basics and Best Practices
The book mentions 8 basics and practices of blogging. Some of the most useful practices are making an attractive title and leading paragraph that can be used to engage and grab the target reader's attention and balancing the CEO with good content especially the balance of the catchiness title and the CEO.
Post Types
You have to make a unique, engaging, and easy-to-digest post. The three types of post are narrative story posts, sections posts that use a series of subheaders, and monologue-style video posts for book reviews and QnAs. It is also mentioned about list types. They are Brief, Detailed, and Hybrid lists.
Attention-Grabbing Headlines
It is good when you make a headline that ended up with a question mark which tends to have more click-through as well. You are also suggested to make thumbnails rather than logos and write the title of the headlines in a colon or hyphen.
12 Things to Do After Posting
The suggested activities that can be done after posting the blog post are shortening the posts’ URL, making new content as the new post or updating the content of the blog, sharing the blog post, and making syndication that can feed the blog content to many social networking sites.
How to Leverage Your Post Content
There are only two tips for this sub-chapters. The fist is developing content derivatives. It aims to know and find what the readers need. The second is trying to put the content in motion to connect and engage the readers.
The last part of the book that I found interesting is the 21 blog metrics for measuring the success of blogging or posting the content of the blog. The metrics provide the criteria and indicators that are used to evaluate the blog posts, including the goal and the description of each indicator. The metrics are used to know whether the blog post has reached the goal of the company or not.
Yupp.... that is what I have read and learned during the self-quarantine. I hope you can enjoy my writing and the pandemic will be gone soon. Stay safe and stay healthy everyone♡
